Here’s a look inside our June Subscription box - the theme was Working Together. Working together means being able to partner with another person with a focus on a specific goal. Kids need to be able to listen to other’s ideas, and compromise about which ideas to pursue. In order to work together successfully, kids need to be able to be flexible and take turns. It can feel wonderful to work together. It’s a great way to connect with others. A lot more emphasis is being placed on the importance of group work in school. In order for kids to be successful students, they need to learn how to work together to accomplish something. It's a good skill to have for the future too. Often times, you may need to collaborate with others on a job, learn to listen to others ideas, and be flexible.
I had so many ideas for this box, but I finally settled on two playdate activities my kids have really enjoyed recently, balloon rockets and catapults.
Catapult - 2 full ones included (each catapult has 2 parts - two sticks wrapped together with a rubber band with a cup attached at the end and the stack of 5 popsicle sticks)
1. Put together Catapult: Place the stack of 5 popsicle sticks in between the two popsicle sticks that are wrapped together with a rubber band. The stick with the cup attached should be on the top, like this picture.
2. Set up Target: Use the cups to set up a cup tower.
3. Aim and Fire the Pom Poms: Kids can work together to aim their catapults at the target to knock it down.
Blow up a balloon and tape a piece of straw to it. String the parachute cord through the straw. Then find a spot with some room. One child should hold the balloon on one end and the other child should hold the other end of the string. Blow up the balloon, then let it go. See how far across the room it will go! Experiment with how to hold the string or how big to blow up the balloon.
If you’d like to see both of these activities in action, take a peek at our YouTube channel.
The Family Activity was working together to complete MADLIBS puzzles. They’re so much fun to do, and they’re great for summer time, in the car or while you are waiting at a restaurant. Be prepared for some laughter!
I hope you enjoyed this peek inside our June kit. Sign up today to receive next month’s box.
