Pinterest in Real Life - Pinterest projects don’t always go as planned. Often the end result doesn’t look like the perfect pictures you see, but it’s not about how it looks. The important thing is that you’re exposing your kids to new shared experiences. It doesn’t have to be Pinterest perfect to be fun or playful.
I actually did this Pinterest project several months ago; I made it in December and gave it to my son for Christmas. He loves cars and I wanted to make him a mat that he could use to play cars and create a town if he decided to do so. I saw a few different pins, like this one I pinned from Tucker's Tales, but I chose to keep it simple and did not add in any buildings. I used a big green square of felt as the base and cut up some black felt for roads and blue felt for water. I used a glue gun to attach the road and the water to the big green square. I also used a silver permanent marker to make the lines on the road. It didn’t take long and it was easy to do. I had a blast!
After Christmas, he did play with it for a few days, and we created an entire town with duplos. He hadn’t touched it in months, but for some reason, as soon as we got back from an extended vacation, he took it out and it’s been on his floor for days. He had a play date with his best friend this past weekend, and he wanted to make sure he and his buddy could play cars together. He left out the cars and a car ramp so they could play. They spent some time together upstairs playing and giggling. I’m so glad he pulled it out again! Maybe we’ll even build another town together.
