Pinterest in Real Life - Bird's Nest

Pinterest in Real Life -  Pinterest projects don’t always go as planned.  Often the end result doesn’t look like the perfect pictures you see, but it’s not about how it looks.  The important thing is that you’re exposing your kids to new shared experiences.  It doesn’t have to be Pinterest perfect to be fun or playful.

Almost every spring we’ve had robins build a nest underneath underneath our deck.  I was hoping it would happen again this year and it did!  We checked to see if there were any eggs... and there were!!

So adorable!

So adorable!

It reminded me of this pinterest project I saw a few weeks ago from Crunchy&Green and I felt inspired to try it with the kids.  We painted paper plates and let them dry before we could move on to the next part.  We ended up painting several other paper plates in the meantime.

We moved on to other activities, went to play outside and in all honesty, I kind of forgot. Several hours later, we came back to the project. I free drew the birds and cut them out.  My daughter did all of the gluing herself, I helped her cut some of the “straw” for the nest.  Then she wanted to add in more details...then more details.  My daughter decided she wanted to give it to her kindergarten teacher as a surprise on her first day back after maternity leave (too cute!!).

Here is my son’s project.  What you probably can’t tell from the picture is that nothing is glued down.  He lost all interest in the project and was exhausted from playing all day.  He was happy just to sit on my lap while I helped my daughter with her project.

We had a good time!
